Princess Theia
Name: Princess Theia Penrose of Highguard
Pronouns: She/Her
Age: 16
Level: 5
Class: Sorceress
Race: Human
Background: Aspirant
Story: She is the princess of Highguard, younger sister of Prince Dashing, who is set to be married and inherit the kingdom. Her mother, Queen Jophiel, died when she was six years old and she remembers very little of her other than that she loved her with her whole heart. When she died, King Ferdinand, Theia’s father, blamed magic and the dangers of the outside world, so he shut up the kingdom behind high, impenetrable walls and banned the use of magic on pain of death. Theia’s father raised her to believe that her mother, while an adept explorer, was a straight-laced, magic averse woman. He has prohibited anyone to speak of the queen’s magical abilities. She longs to explore as her mother did. She also longs to do something of use for her kingdom since their isolation has greatly diminished their resources. Unfortunately, she is prone to opinions that conflict with her father’s rules. Worse than that, she believes that she may be cursed. Lately, she has been experiencing random magical outbursts, the worst of which happen when someone (particularly a man) startles her. She likes to spend her time dreaming. She reads books about history and adventure, trying to imagine what her mother might have seen on her travels. When she’s not in the library, she likes to explore. Her favorite spot is the abandoned tower. It is the highest point in the castle and is the only place where she can see out beyond the kingdom walls. She doesn’t really have many friends. She doesn’t really fit in with nobles her age. She finds them to be rather stuffy, disingenuous, and preoccupied with the more superficial matters of court. She mostly keeps to herself and she’s mostly fine with that. Mostly.
Feliks
Character: Feliks (Felikskek Grampton St. Frumpterrabbl)
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: early 20s
Level: 5
Class: Fighter
Race: Gnome
Background: Folk Hero
Story: Feliks had always struggled to find his place in his hometown. As a gnome he’s a bit of a failure, being a disaster at alchemy, a hazard in tinkering, and only showing a middling ability in magic, he however has no limit to his eagerness and imagination. Assisting his scholar father in his library, Feliks came across a book telling tales of heroes and their daring do’s. Enamored, he turned to the local tavern to hear more stories until one night he saved a young woman from a thief and realized perhaps his own destiny was to become a hero himself. With the overly-eager enthusiasm of any young Gnome, Feliks took the family goat Ramsay and with a hasty farewell to his parents, set out into the unknown to find his own adventure. Coming across an old knight on the road named Reinhold Hawkwood the Resilient, Felix begged the aged man to take him on as his squire and teach him the ways of chivalry and heroism. Unfortunately Reinhold only gave him about a month’s worth of training before passing in his sleep at a tavern. Now trapped in a sort of limbo, Felix spends his days at the tavern, hoping to find either a new mentor or an adventure worth chasing.
Delaelia
Character: Delaelia
Pronouns: She/Her
Age: 90-something years old
Level: 5
Class: Ranger
Race: High Elf
Background:
Story: Delaelia hails from Afonydheuoedd, the motherland deep in the forest that lies adjacent to Highguard. Her people called these woods their home before man set foot nearby, and their knowledge and ways are more ancient than the short-lived can even imagine. She was raised in the ways of her people, learning to fight, track, feel, and understand the forest, who her people call Maeril. Unlike the humans, who misuse the forest as a farm for their needs, the elves of Afonydheuoedd live harmoniously with her as one. Dalaelia is no stranger to the ways of this forest, and feels obliged to love and respect it almost as a sibling.
The greatest among her people transform at the time of their death to an undead ruling class, so many of her ancestors reside near her childhood home as a senate of sorts.
Dalaelia’s family believes that the human city nearby, like most human things, is a temporary annoyance and that Maeril can protect herself, but she fears it is a more significant danger. While her parents and ancestors are wrapped up in what they consider larger matters of Eos as a whole, the wind, and the stars, she notices very real threats of poachers and what appears to be a kind of madness taking over the hunters and loggers entering the fringes of her home. They destroy with a vigor that frightens her, and in her opinion must be stopped.
With an interest verging on obsession, Delaelia tracks and educates herself on their neighbors. She learns their language and disguises herself to sneak into the city. There is good there in the music, food, craft, babies, mothers; but there is an underground evil lurking that she hasn’t been able to fully understand yet.
