Earlier this summer I had the absolute pleasure of hearing my newest play, “Besties,” read aloud as part of Kanas City Public Theater’s Theater Lab Fest 2024! Director Whitney Klass was such a joy to work with, as was Dramaturg Casey Jane. The stellar cast featured actors Stella Garibaldi as Liz, Brandis Outlaw as Evie, Emily Coffin as Mel, Alisa Lynn as Ruth, Eunice Png as Dana, and Richard Bertoldi as Zach. I couldn’t have been more happy with how it all turned out, and am so thankful to everyone who poured their creative energy and talent into bringing this story to life.
Synopsis: Despite the different paths they’ve taken, five childhood friends reunite for a weekend in the wake of their leader’s unexpected divorce. The bonds that connect them are tested when old hurts resurface and long-held conflicts come to a head. Is there really such a thing as “best friends forever”?
I’ve spent more time working on this play than any other before. I started it before the pandemic, had to set it down when the world turned upside down, and was only able to pick it back up after the fall of Roe v. Wade. It’s still a work in progress, but here’s hoping after some reworking we’ll see it on its feet soon enough!
